Tuesday

It's Tuesday...and our driver was 20 minutes early today!  Wow!  We stopped off at Nakumatt for some mosquito plug-ins and a HUGE can of mosquito room spray so the mosquitos won't dive bomb our heads tonight!  It's terrifying when you are awakened from a deep sleep by a mosquito heading full force towards your ear!

In the morning at the Virginia Home we did an activity with the older kids where they wrote things they liked about each other on sheets of paper taped to their backs.  You may or may not be surprised to know that kids are kids wherever you go on this Earth!  While many of the children said things like "beautiful smile" or "a trusting friend", there were one or two "good at polluting the air" and "your head is too big to see around"....we tied this back in to Jesus' love for us and how He served us and we should serve others.

The younger kids don't have strong English or spelling so Harrison and I took them to another room to draw.  One boy, Luke, drew a picture that took up two pages so Harrison had this brilliant idea to tape the two drawings together...I told Harrison the next time he had such a great idea, to PLEASE keep it to himself!  Every child in the room had me tape all of their drawings together (most of which were all independent from each other).  I must have taped 436 drawings together today!

As I would finish their "taping" I made them leave the room because it was getting VERY chaotic! This (above) was my final piece to tape....whew!  It's a good thing all of them are SO cute and their drawings were so cute!

My boys got a treat and much to their Gigi's chagrin, they rode a motorbike taxi from lunch through the slums to the Virginia Home.

After lunch at the Guava Cafe, we headed back for an afternoon of Swahili lessons and free time.  We told them one way they could serve was to teach us Swahili.  It was pretty entertaining!  Una taka nini? (What do you want?), Una miaka mingapi? (How old are you?), etc.  We then proceeded to teach them Spanish....what in the world?  Ha, ha!  After our language lessons we played outside.  Harrison has become quite the frisbee expert and Hudson likes to play volleyball!

As always, the children go CRAZY for photo opportunities!

We are now tucked in for the night (and it's only 8:30 pm local time!).  We've planned our lesson for tomorrow and practiced (unsuccessfully) our Swahili, ha, ha!

I am excited to say that through a generous donation, the children will be receiving new school uniforms (hopefully before we leave)!  All of the children have been fitted and measured and hopefully we will get to see them in their new uniforms by the end of next week!  Goodnight all!

  2. Thank you Amy...yes they do! And when I wanted to hang them up around the room they wanted to take them home and show their parents (but many of them won't go home until December so I'm doubting they will make it)...
